2-Day Vegan Guide in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Day 1:

🍽 Breakfast: Sweet Veggie
Start your morning at Sweet Veggie, which opens bright and early at 7:30 AM. It's a local favorite, with a buffet-style setup where you pay based on the dishes you choose and the price is insanely worth it at only a few US dollars per plate. Expect a mix of mock meats and vegetables—many of which are fried or on the oilier side but undeniably delicious. It's easy to overload your plate here with all the variety (and still want more). In Malaysia, it’s rare to find a vegan breakfast spot that opens this early, so Sweet Veggie is a gem.

🎨 Activity: Batik Painting Workshop at Jadi Batek
After breakfast, head to Jadi Batek for a hands-on batik painting workshop. While you can walk there, the route involves navigating a freeway without sidewalks—skip the stress and grab a Grab car instead, Malaysia’s version of Uber.

At the workshop, you'll learn the traditional art of wax-resist dyeing on fabric. Choose a blank canvas, shirt, scarf, or tote bag, sketch your design under a lightbox, trace it in hot wax, and then watercolor it in. Once dry, you boil your piece to remove the wax, revealing a vibrant, custom piece of art. The process is both fun and relaxing—I especially loved blending colors to create soft gradients. Afterwards, you can browse their boutique for handmade clothing and souvenirs.

The purple flowers was my artwork on a tote bag!

🍛 Linner: Dar Soo Vegetarian Cuisine
Make your way to Jaya Shopping Centre, where you'll find Dar Soo Vegetarian Cuisine on the top floor, right next to the bookstore. It's a bit of a drive (around 30 minutes from KL Centre), but totally worth it.
This Buddhist vegetarian buffet goes above and beyond—they even give you a “Say No to Meat” face mask to wear while getting food. Highlights include mock meats, stir-fried noodles, buns, soups, a noodle station, and a dessert bar. I especially loved the grilled enoki mushrooms and tom yum noodle soup. Honestly, I wish a buffet like this existed in California.

🧩 Evening Activities: Breakout Escape Room + SuperPark Malaysia
My partner and I love escape rooms, and in KL they’re a steal—only $24 for two people compared to $35–$50 per person back in California. We did two rooms at Breakout Escape Room and had a blast. While KL escape rooms aren’t quite as high-tech or complex as LA’s, they’re still loads of fun and great for bonding.

In the same mall, you’ll also find SuperPark Malaysia, a 40,000 sq ft indoor adventure park. Think of it as Skyzone but even better—trampolines, air hockey, bowling, pedal car racing, dodgeball, soccer, basketball, rock climbing, and more. We worked up a sweat and spent hours just letting loose. Whether you’re with kids or just a kid at heart, this place is a blast.

Day 2:

🍽 Breakfast: Lotus Vegetarian Buffet at Berjaya Times Square
KL really is a vegetarian buffet paradise. For Day 2 breakfast, head to Lotus at Berjaya, open as early as 6:30 AM. While it's pricier by local standards, it's still a deal for the quality.
They offer everything from fresh roti with curry sauce to Chinese-style breakfast like congee, buns, and dim sum. My favorite part? The single-serving nasi lemak and assam laksa—so flavorful and beautifully presented. The portions are small enough to try everything (and trust me, you’ll want to). They also offer a lunch and dinner buffet.

🛕 Activity: Batu Caves
Yes, it’s touristy but Batu Caves is a must-see. You'll be greeted by a massive golden statue of the Hindu God Lord Murugan and 272 colorful steps that lead to caves filled with shrines and city views.
The best part? The wild monkeys. We watched baby monkeys play and nurse from their mothers—such a surreal and magical experience. You can buy bananas to feed them, but stay cautious because they’re bold and can snatch things from your hands!

🌆 KLCC Park + Petronas Twin Towers
After Batu Caves, Grab your way back to KL’s city center and take a leisurely walk through the KLCC park. Visit the Petronas Twin Towers, Malaysia’s most iconic landmark. You’ll need to book your ticket in advance to visit the Skybridge on the 41st floor and the observation deck on the 86th floor for breathtaking views. It's definitely a splurge, but the views and architectural history are worth it.

🍽 Dinner: Organic Vegetarian at Pavilion KL
Head to the food court at Pavilion KL for a clean, fresh dinner at Organic Vegetarian. Dishes like lei cha rice, nasi lemak, and char kuay teow are made with organic ingredients and packed with flavor and are perfect for ending your day on a healthy note.

🍦 Dessert: Mr. Bean
Just a short walk away in a different mall is Mr. Bean, a chain I’ve been obsessed with since first discovering it in Singapore. Their fresh soy milk, tofu pudding, and creamy soy soft serve were our saving grace in the Malaysian heat. We visited as often as we could and even brought home a stuffed Mr. Bean as a souvenir. I’m not being dramatic when I say Mr. Bean changed me.
